Frequently asked questions

No. KanoonPilot is an informational tool that helps you understand legal documents. It is not a law firm, does not create any attorney-client relationship, and is not a substitute for professional legal counsel. We help you understand what a document says, extract deadlines, and recommend the right official channel or human help — but you should always verify facts and consult a qualified lawyer for important decisions.
Public connections use HTTPS/TLS, and stored case data relies on provider-managed protections plus case-level access checks. We follow privacy-by-design principles and tracked request flows for deletion, export, correction, and grievances. Review any summary carefully before sharing it with others.
We show confidence levels and clearly mark uncertainty. Where source support is available, explanations include citations or references to official legal material; if the system is not sure, it tells you and recommends consulting a qualified lawyer. We use a two-pass generation process: first extracting facts, then generating explanations from those facts and available source material. For high-risk matters (arrest risk, violence, child safety), we always recommend immediate human escalation.
We currently support Hindi and English for both document input and output. Key legal terms are shown bilingually (e.g., "ज़मानत (Bail)"). Regional language support is expanding — Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, and Telugu are in our roadmap. Audio summaries in Hindi are also planned for low-literacy users.
Yes. We have an "uploading for someone else" mode designed for family members, CSC operators, and NGO volunteers helping others. Consent is captured separately, and you should review any summary carefully before sharing it with the person on WhatsApp or elsewhere. This is one of the most common use cases in India — helping a parent, spouse, or relative understand a legal document.
If our system detects high-risk indicators — arrest risk, domestic violence, child safety concerns, self-harm, extortion, or imminent deadlines — we immediately surface emergency resources: NALSA Helpline 15100, Women Helpline 181, Child Helpline 1098, Police 100, and verified legal aid contacts. We never make you wait for analysis when safety is at stake. See our emergency help page →
